I’m doing a poster on Renewable energy, and I would just like someone to verify that all these facts are correct:

Clean energy poster:
What is clean energy?
This is power produced from renewable (naturally replenished) and natural resources without having a negative impact on the environment.
Examples of reliable “clean” energy sources include: sunlight, water, wind, biomass and geothermal heat.

Wind Power – this is the conversion of wind strength into usable energy sources, especially for electricity. This type of power can be obtained by using wind turbines and wind mills.

Solar Energy – this is the power that is obtained from sunlight and can be converted into other types of energy. Inventions such as solar panels can help collect this source of energy for conversion.

Biomass Energy – Biomass is any plant (trees) or animal matter, and can be used to create an energy-rich gas called Biogas. Biomass can also be burned to create fuel for different uses.

SOLAR ENERGY
-This renewable source of energy does not produce waste or pollution.
-This fuel is used for many things: electricity, creation of biomass, heating water, and buildings, and even transport (solar-powered cars)
-This is a free, reliable and clean energy source.

WIND ENERGY
-This is one of the lowest priced renewable energy sources.
-This renewable source is a good alternative to nuclear energy in areas with favourable climate conditions.
-This source can provide cleaner air and a much healthier environment for all.

BIOMASS ENERGY
-Growing biomass for fuel can create jobs in rural areas.
-Biomass is not a fossilised fuel (like oil and coal), but fresh natural material that can grow again, even after harvesting.
-Using this source of power will not have a major affect on the environment.

Is everything correct/accurate? anything that I should edit/change?

Biomass does not create bio fuel, yet.
Biomass is usually sent to a biomass plant that converts it to electricity. Yes it is small trees and brush or even walnut shells that are chipped then burned in a massive furnace heating water into steam that turns a turbine generator that produces electricity.
It can be converted into ethanol gas but currently its to expensive to pay off.

I heard along along a grape vine that that planets are currently aligning and they are emitting cosmic energy which has cause many more natural disasters to occur this year then normal. Just wondering if anyone knows if this is fact or fiction or general thoughts on this topic! Thank you xxx

Everyone nailed it.

In cosmology, Cosmic energy or cosmic microwave background (CMB) radiation is a form of electromagnetic radiation filling the universe and is radiation left over from an early stage in the creation of the universe, and its discovery is considered a landmark test of the Big Bang model of the universe.

Planets don’t emit cosmic energy.

Jupiter, Saturn, and Neptune do emit more energy than they receive from the sun, but it’s not "cosmic", it’s infrared radiation, which is felt as heat. Scientists think the source of some of the energy is probably the slow compression of the planets by their own gravity. It has nothing to do with alignment, nor does that energy have any affect on Earth.

As for the alignment of the planets, To figure out the probability that all of the planets will be in a straight line out from the Sun (with the Moon in line too), which is the real meaning of the word alignment, we must determine the odds of all the superior planets falling on the same celestial coordinates on the ecliptic while at opposition, the inferior planets on the same coordinates while at inferior conjunction while on the ecliptic, and the Moon at one of its two node points. The amount of time that it would take to happen would be roughly 86 billion-trillion-trillion-trillion years.

Considering the universe won’t even last that long (nevermind the planets) it unlikely to ever happen.

Forget the manufacturing price, because if electric-powered supplies were used in the early modern times, then it would set the standards of the supplies’ price, thus available to the public in an affordable price.

If only people didn’t make use of the fossil fuels, the world would be a much better place, since CO2 emissions would be less. But back to the question, is the fact that electricity can be used to power carbon-emitting machines of today? There’s also solar energy, so I’m really lost here.

Simple and true answer, the greedy get greedier. No money in providing us with free electricity, even if its best for the environment. Today technology can provide solar, wind and magnetic power systems that can operate on renewable energy, that would save us money, and is safe for our environment. But No money to be made in providing us free electricity. So the greed would rather pollute our environment because there big money for the greedy.

Some day more people will start converting there system to renewable energy and the more and more we start doing this, the more the idea will catch on. Some day there will be no utility company and that would mean more money for us to spend.

hey i’m making a video on how oil is bad, it’s ruining our planet so we should turn to solar. any one have good songs/facts about solar energy or oil?
that would be awesome
my ideas are: soak up the sun – sheryl Crow
Waiting on the world to change, -john mayer
where is the love – black eyed peas.
which one is the best/ any better ideas.
it’s just for a school project…..

I always find the antisemitic statements on R+S interesting and wondered if the authors could even identify Israel on a globe. I found these facts interesting and wondered how fellow contributors would view them.

Israel is the 100th smallest country, and has about 1/1000th of the world’s population. It is only 62 years old,

Only 62 years old, 7 million people strong (less than Virginia), and smaller in size than New Jersey, surrounded by enemies, under constant threat and possessing almost no natural resources, and yet…

* Relative to its population, Israel is the largest immigrant-absorbing nation on earth. It has absorbed 350% of its population in 60 years.

* Israel is the only country in history to have revived an unspoken language.

* Since the founding of the state, Israel has more Nobel Prices per capita than any other country. It has more laureates in real numbers than China, Mexico and Spain.

* Israel has the 8th longest life expectancy (80.7 years), longer than the UK, US, and Germany

* Israeli films were nominated three years in a row for the Academy Award’s Best Foreign Film

Environment

* Israel is the only country that entered the 21st century with a net gain in its number of trees, even more remarkable — in an area that’s mainly desert.

* Over 90% of Israeli homes use solar energy for hot water, the highest percentage in the world.

* Israel will be the first country to host a national electric car network.

* Israel is ranked in the top five Cleantech countries of the world, and operates the world’s largest desalinization plant.
* Israeli companies are producing the largest solar energy production facility in the world.

Science & Technology

* Israel leads the world in the number of scientists and technicians in the workforce, 63% more than the U.S. It also has the most physicians and engineers per capita.

* Israel’s scientific research institutions are ranked 3rd in the world.
* Israel is ranked 2nd in space sciences.

* Israel produces the 3rd most scientific papers per capita, and the most in stem cell science.
* More Israeli patents are registered in the United States than from Russia, India and China combined (combined population 2.5 billion). It leads the world in patents for medical equipment.

* Israeli companies invented the drip irrigation system, discovered the world’s most used drug for multiple sclerosis, designed the Pentium NMX Chip technology and the Pentium 4 and Centrium microprocessors, created Instant Messenger (ICQ), and Israeli cows produce more milk per cow than any other in the world!

Business

* Israel has the 3rd highest rate of entrepreneurship among women in the world.

* Israel has attracted the most venture capital investment per capita in the world, 30 times more than Europe

* Israel has more NASDAQ-listed companies than any country besides the US — more than all of Europe, India, China and Japan combined.

* In proportion to its population, Israel has the largest number of startup companies in the world. In absolute numbers, Israel has more startups than any country other than the U.S

Yep, all true. In many ways it is a powerful success story.

However, it has been a the expense of most of its non-Jewish population, who have been living as refugees since 1948/9, and under occupation since 1967/73.

The ultimate success story will be one that allows these refugees to return home and be full citizens. As Israel is essentially a Jewish state, albeit often very secular in character, it must become more secular so as to allow the Christian and Muslim population to feel at home in their own land. There are a range of ideas for doing so, including the oft-touted two-state solution, or a state of cantons, and the route to that won’t be an easy one.

In many ways it is a Rhodesia with powerful friends. Many of the same successes could be attributed to Rhodesia, but it was still run by a minority, at least at the partial expense of most of the people. Rhodesia ultimately failed as it lacked international support and could not withstand the pressure of its opponents. Holding out against change as long as possible meant a sensible compromise was not achieved, and the ruthless dictator who took over the new Zimbabwe was able to run the country into the ground.

Israel has the USA, a superpower friend. It is under no real pressure to make the sort of compromises necessary to resolve the situation, and is still expanding into Palestinian land. The vast bulk of Palestinian refugees still own land in what is now Israel, but it will not even permit them to return, let alone recognise their property rights (including Ottoman and British Mandate title deeds). In many cases the old villages have been destroyed and redeveloped. This enforced exile is in contravention of international laws and the same UN resolutions that granted Israel recognition as a state.

With strength comes callous arrogance, and that breeds hatred and ruthless terrorism amongst the dispossessed. Terrorism is used as a reason to not let refugees return, rather than recognising it as a direct symptom of the dispossession.

If Palestinian refugees can be refused return, then that would also apply to Bosnians, Georgians, Western Saharans, Darfuris, etc, and one of the major principles by which we aspire to have a civilised world would go out the window. Ethnic cleansers like Radovan Karadzic could claim their methods were legitimate, and the results should remain. It would be ironic that a country that was founded in the shadow of the Holocaust was primarily responsible for enabling genocidalists to succeed.

So while it’s a major success in some ways, it is a complete disaster in others. A proper solution is very much needed. In the meantime, we cannot admire one shiny side of the coin without recognising the less shiny other side.

Alternate energy sources in cars?

admin on July 10th, 2010

I have something that ive been continuosly attempting to get people aware of and i think places like yahoo answers are a great way to spread awarness. There is a japanese solar powered car that could go over 80 miles an hour ran almost entirely of solar energy. There was a purely solar powered vehicle unmaned that could reach speeds over 150mph. There are suits a person can put on that will allow you to pick up 50 pound weights as long as u have a battery and ones in japan that will allow you to carry a crippled man up a mountain. Wierdly some of these things may sound like science fiction. i say go look it up although the facts may not be 100% correct the japanese car seems viable for sale some japanese car companies where looking into mass producing it soon. So why hasnt america caught up on this? we have hydrogen powered cars but u have to refuel those. solar powered cars would probaly be all around cheaper and save you tons. WHY ARENT WE RUNNING ON ALTERNATIVE ENERGY!!!!???

America has some of the best electric car companies. For example, the Green Vehicles Triac is going to be the first affordable highway speed EV available in July.

http://greenhome.huddler.com/products/green-vehicles-triac

And Aptera is going to have the second.

http://greenhome.huddler.com/products/aptera-typ-1e-ev

Both are California companies. Next year ZAP and Miles also expect to join the mix.

http://greenhome.huddler.com/products/zap-electric-cars-alias-ev

http://greenhome.huddler.com/products/miles-electric-vehicles-xs500-ev

Although ZENN might have the best one, and they’re a Canadian company.

http://greenhome.huddler.com/products/zenn-motors-cityzenn-ev

And of course the Tesla Roaster is one of the coolest cars on the planet – a fully electric sports car.

Help Solar Panel Project do soon!?

admin on July 7th, 2010

I’m doing a shcool porjet on solar panels I need to know all this informatio can some one help me?:Research and Support Your Opinion 1. Many companies that sell solar energy products advertise on the Internet. Do a search for these Web sites and make a list of sources. 2. Use these sources to find information about the cost and efficiency of solar heating products and designs. 3. Make a list of solar options that could be used in your home. For each one, list its approximate cost and its advantages and disadvantages. 4. Do you think solar energy is a practical option for your home? Write a paragraph summarizing your opinion. Make sure to support your opinion with facts from your research.

these arent so difficult. If I had access to google when I was in school, it would have been a breeze :D .
I assume your teacher is asking about Photovoltaic products .
1. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&hs=rQr&q=solar+energy+products+photovoltaic+&btnG=Search
2.http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&hs=YoW&ei=vqG6SarRGYnYsAO84tFG&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=solar+energy+photovoltaic+efficiency&spell=1
3.http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&hs=vqW&q=solar+energy+%22in+the+home%22++%22pros+and+cons%22&btnG=Search
4. YES. the rest is all you Kido . But I would say something about helping the environment , also not being (as)dependent on grid power or gas for heating or electricity. Good Luck=D
