=D Any tips? Websites, or pros and cons, or how much it could cost?

harbor freight has some solar panels for sale, they’re usually less than 50 bucks

Just wonderin? Thinking of going all solar!

40,000 will get a smaller home off grid if you’re frugal. So, "not so frugal" + big house? I’d have to estimate around 100,000. You might want to put in some wind turbines too, so you can generate electricity at night, and on stormy days. And make sure you cut a deal with the local power company, so you can sell your excess, or buy a big storage system.

Well theres a couple of people on my street having solar panels installed on to their buildings and i went further into this and found out that there quite expensive so i was wondering how could i build one my self ? cheapest way possible please.

you can buy the cells and assemble on a flat frame yourself..
I spent 200$…and hooked up inverters with a deep cell battery bank….
I now have the electric company pay me.
Take that you Public Utility.!!!!!

How to build solar panels?

admin on April 22nd, 2011

How to build solar panels at home and where can I learn to do it.
I don’t want to pay thousands to buy a ready made one, and would love the experience of building one for cheap.

I built one myself and I can immediately say, your making the right decision for doing the same… trust me you’ll save thousands with your solar panels. Building one is actually really easy and straight forward if you’ve got the right guide that prescribes the right and best "ingredients" to build one.
The guide I used made things a hella lot easier for me, I am not an engineer or mechanical guy whatsoever but with the guide I bought I built one in under a week.
I seriously recommend you check out the guide I used. It is sent to you in CD format and is very easy to follow. It’s good also because it splits the steps up into 6 seperate parts that make things simpler for anyone looking to build their solar panels.

It’s a great DIY project to get involved in, even if you don’t mind fossil fueled power.
You can find the link to the video guide in my source.

I am trying to come up with a term project for a class I’m in, and my current idea involves lighting miniature LED bulbs (we’re talking tiny, here) with a homemade "solar" panel (I would probably in actuality use a bright light instead of the sun). Is it possible to build your own solar panel without too much crazy equipment or expenses? How would I do so?

You can get a small panel at Radio Shack. If you want to go to the trouble of trying to fabricate one from the ground up, that is another matter. Modern construction techniques are beyond the scope of even a well prepared home constructor. Vacuum deposition, being one of the steps in many of the types. Not to mention the hazardous and toxic materials used in manufacture.

Now, Lindsay books had at one time a book titled "How to Construct a Solar Cell That Really Works" which would make an interesting class project in itself. It uses primarily a copper penny- Pre 1982 US. If they still have it you should find at http://www.lindsaybks.com It does not produce enough power to operate an LED, but it does produce adequate power to deflect an analog meter needle.

I was thinking of building my own solarpannels. How ever there are a lot of guides out there but they all cost money. I found a site pretending they where testing these guides but i could find an actual review ( http://www.selfmade-solarpanels.com ) Does anyone know a site where you can review the best instructions for building your own solarpannel ?

I recommend building your own panel only for the fun of it, not to save money. A homemade panel will cost more per kWh for electricity, because you will not be allowed to connect it to the grid, and therefore must build a standalone system with a battery or batteries.

The best instructions are free. This person provides them http://www.mdpub.com/solar/index.html . Also, see http://www.instructables.com/solar/ for both electric and heating panel projects.

Before spending money on plans from the web, I suggest reading this critique: http://www.nlcpr.com/Deceptions6.php

I mean what are the material needed to build solar energy for small device from 50mn volts to 24 volts

I may need more info on your Question, I think i can answer if i have more info!!
i have a diy solar panel E-book that may help that we put together its all free
this is the link

If you need more help, you can e-mail me i will try to help

thanks, David

For my science fair project I am building a solar powered BEAM bot from a kit I am going to order online. For my experiment I was going to expose the BEAM bot to three different light sources to see which one worked best. So I just wanted to know if I would be able to determine how much light the solar panel on the BEAM bot is receiving.

Go to your local camera store and buy a light-meter that will read out in lumens per sq ft, or lumens per sq meters. Back in the good old days this is how every photographer set the iris on their camera.

or even bigger?

this is not homework I was just wondering that there must be a huge budget required to not only make it but maintain it. The size I said was just a rough estimate.

cheers :)

Multiple billions to be sure. More likely trillions, more akin to our current US national debt. Might be a way to put people back to work however and export most of our illegal immigrates and prison population to work on it, thus we could kill three birds with one stone.

Only a few problems and questions remain: Why would we want to do it over there? How would we get the power from there to here? Is it even doable, knowing we have no rights to the land?

A better idea is one I fell upon the other day, convert our US federal highway system to solar and thus solve our own energy problems with Green Energy right here in the USA! An engineering firm in Idaho already has a prototype and an idea of how to do it.

Imaging plugging your house into the street out front, eliminating the power lines all over our neighborhoods? Check it out! Be sure to watch the linked video pages. Cool stuff, environmentally friendly to boot!

I’m building a solar panel for my science fair project and it has to be high school level. On ebay they have solar cells that say they are tabbed and ones that say they are untabbed. If I buy ones that are untabbed how do i "tab" them?

One has a means of attaching leads, or has leads for your electrical connection and the other you have to fabricate a means of making a connection to your cell’s conductive strips.

Depending on the amount of current the cell is to produce at peak will be your limiting factor, but something as simple as conductive tape (adhesive RF shielding for example) can work. Securing it could be done if you install them in a rabbeted frame to accept the panel and locate your conductive foil at each pole of the cell. Then a simple matter of securing a brass screw through that conductive tape with a simple wire loop under the head of the screw makes for a simple secure connection. While you could try to attach wire with a low wattage soldering iron, there are some instances where the cell could be damaged from the heat application.

Since it sounds like your cells will not be weather resistant, you will need to make a weather resistant frame for them, which makes the above a very simple method of attachment. .
